Even today, it’s still lead by the Clark family, brothers Harris and Jonathan Clark. They are the third generation of Clarks since their grandfather founded Sanitary 90 years ago.
The company was one of the original “hyper-locals”, that is, always headquartered in New York City, today in the Bronx and all of us collectively -managers, technicians, and customers-hail from all of New York’s Boroughs. “Family” has always been one of our core values, from our team to customers. Thus our tagline: “Professionals helping Neighbors”.
We take the science with service of plumbing seriously, as it, like our sister services, keeps your homes running so you can enjoy home without having to think about it.
Some of our Sanitary colleagues have been with us for over two decades, some for two months. All are a critical part of the Sanitary family. And they hail from every neighborhood in New York City, and proudly so. (In fact, the only arguments we tend to have are on the Mets versus the Yankees). We encourage you to drop by and say hi.
A note from Jerry:
I grew up in Brooklyn, in what is today called the Carroll Gardens neighborhood, and I live in the Bronx with my family today. Yes, my father was a plumber, but also my mother was one of the first women to be granted her certificate and license in New York State as a plumber. I’ve always loved helping, and always loved fixing things, and if there was no such thing as plumbing, I’d probably be a mechanical engineer, or a full time “maker”. But, I like plumbing because it is the hands on way to combine the technical knowledge, of hydraulics to mechanics, I learned in college, with hands on daily application. Fixing and making things that customers can benefit from and enjoy the same day I finish any project. That immediacy, both socially working with a customer directly, and seeing the product of my work every day and the smile of thanks or sigh of relief on a customer, well, it’s the best type of work I could ever imagine doing.
My son is now 13, and while we share a love of baseball (Go Yankees) and fixing and making things, we spend most of our project time together building drones and racing and fighting them. So while he’d be a great next-gen plumber, he’s already talking about aeronautical engineering for college. As long as he’s using his brain and his hands to make something useful, I’m behind him 100%.
I also want to take this opportunity to send a work of thanks. To Cynthia, my wife, of course, but also to all of the customers that I’ve had the opportunity to work for and with though Sanitary over the last 14 years. You make my day, every day.
